 We list below a few restaurants that we like, but no doubt you will find your own particular favourite and we would be interested to hear about these too. Some of the traditional dishes are listed at the foot of the page, so do please try something new. Click here for photos of some of the restaurants and bars we have visited in the town.

O Bote
Situated in the square overlooking the beach, this is a must if you are in the mood for people watching. The fish is good and the staff friendly, or just sit for a coffee and watch the world go by.

O Stop
A friendly family run restaurant overlooking the beach at Centianes. Good for fish and chicken, or lunchtime snacks and afternoon teas, or just for an ice-cream to cool you off after enjoying this lovely beach.

A Gale
Situated a little way up Rua do Farol, A Gale is very popular with locals and tourists alike. Consistantly good food and sensible prices, it is almost always necessary to book your table in advance. Piri piri prawns are a favourite here.

Jota-Lita
A small and friendly family run restaurant on Rua do Farol, serving excellent food at good prices.

O Cantinho
A courtyard for those who like to eat outside, this family run restaurant is also situated in Rua do Farol. Regular visitors to Carvoeiro and locals alike keep this a busy and popular restaurant. Try the traditional Cataplana fish stew.

Algarvia
On the left hand side as you walk up Rua do Farol, this is always a busy restauruant, so best to book your table. The staff are friendly and there are a few outside tables. The traditional meat or fish kebabs are something to try.

Tia Ilda
A lovely setting, just up the hill from Sulley's bar, this charming and friendly restaurant serves excellent locally caught fish as well as meat dishes, pizzas and pasta. The chocolate fondue is out of this world and a choice of over 70 wines on the list. There is a wonderful view of the beach from the upstairs terrace. Click here for our virtual tour.

A Casa do Pao
This is accessible from both the Rua do Barranco or from Rua dos Pescadores and was created from the old bakery. Here you can sample traditional fish and other Portuguese dishes, also pizzas from the bread oven in the outside courtyard.
