Golf
There are three of the best golf courses in Carvoeiro. The small nine hole golf course at Vale de Milho is visually very attractive. An excellent course for beginners to practice and regular players to improve on their short game, whilst at the same time enjoying the beautiful relaxing landscape.
The Pestana Golf at Sesmarias, just 2 km out of Carvoeiro, consists of two golf courses, the Vale da Pinta and Quinta do Gramacho.
Situated near Carvoeiro the Vale da Pinta is a championship course, nonetheless adaptable to any kind of game. The course runs through an old olive grove, where some of the trees are more than 700 years old.
Quinta do Gramacho, also near Carvoeiro, was originally a nine hole course cleverly redesigned to become a full 18-hole course. It covers undulating terrain with olive, almond and carob trees scattered as planted years before by the local farmers. The course is designed for the player to be technically accurate and to know which club to choose before hitting the ball.
Other courses along the coast within reach of Carvoeiro:

Alto Golf is situated near the picturesque village of Alvor. The course runs through two valleys, offering players winding fairways and undulating greens.
Penina is the grandfather of courses in the Algarve. Originally paddy fields for rice growing this has been converted into a flat challenging course, with numerous shrubs and trees and strategically placed water hazards to catch the unwary long hitter.
Morgado is the newest course to open in the Algarve, lying to the north of Portimao, it is laid out through underlating small valleys with deep bunkers, and large greens which place demand on good putting skills
Palmares is a course of great beauty, perfectly blending beach and mountain scenery.
Its clubhouse, set between holes nine and ten, provides a fantastic panorama of 25 km of the Atlantic coastline.
Salgados is situated close to the sea, and its lakes pose a challenge to the technical skills of golfers.
