Activities and Suggestions

Carvoeiro, visit slide & splash Slide & Splash
The water park - a favourite with children and adults alike. There is so much variety for all at the water park that calls itself ‘the best in Europe ’. There are plenty of rides for all ages & a jacuzzi for mum. There can be queues for refreshments in the busy season, so maybe take your own picnic, and do watch out for sunburn and keep replacing the suncream. Situated on the E125 about 5 minutes from Lagoa.

Carvoeiro, visit Zoomarine Zoo Marine
The main attraction are dolphins who give three shows a day in a large arena. It is possible to join dolphins in the water for a "dolphin experience" but you must pre-book. There are seals & sea lions also giving three shows a day and you can also see the aquarium with numerous sea creatures and small tiger sharks. There are also parrot shows, a play area, theme rides and a swimming pool. Zoomarine is situated on the E125 near Albufeira and bus trips are organised if you don’t feel like the drive.

Carvoeiro, visit Crazy World Krazy World
For the children, Krazy World is well worth a visit!  You will find a huge mini golf, swimming pool, a petting farm where you can make friends with llamas, deer, wallabies, camels, and more. There are quad bikes, pony rides, a crocodile park and several other attractions - all in beautifully landscaped surroundings. In summer their are live shows showing different animals.

Carvoeiro, visit historic Silves Silves
Wander around the narrow streets and look around the castle at Silves. Whilst you are there visit the Fabrica do Ingles which is an old cork factory with a museum showing various stages of the industry. There are a number of restaurants and at night a water/light show is well worth the wait.

Carvoeiro, drive to Monchique Monchique
When you feel like a change from the beach, a trip to the Monchique is worth the half hour drive - head for Portimao and take the turn off at the signs. If the weather is clear the views are fantastic. Wander around the cobbled streets of Monchique town and then drive on up to Foia which is 906m above sea level. Stop somewhere for a simple lunch, chicken piri piri is always good, and on the way down visit Caldos Monchique and taste the water (sulphur - not nice) but the many “fontes” spill forth lovely fresh mountain water, so maybe take an empty bottle or two.

Carvoeiro, take a Boat trip Boat Trips
A boat trip to visit the caves, and spot dolphins swimming wild, can be arranged from Portimao, a short drive away and it is possible to hire local fisherman with their boats for a trip along the coast and visit the grottos. You can also take a big game fishing trip from the quay in Portimao.

Carvoeiro, try sardines Sardines in Portimao
No trip is complete without sampling Portuguese sardines, grilled in the open and eaten at one of the many open air quayside restaurants. Usually served with little salty potatoes cooked in their skins, bread and a simple salad. Sit and watch the boats come and go whilst you watch and smell your lunch grilling. An experience you will remember, so don't forget to take your camera.
